Yukata is the cotton fabric used to make summer kimonos, and is also the name used for the summer robes made from this fabric. It is a dyed fabric (that is, not screen printed) and so is usable, and beautiful, from both sides. The pattern designer, Diane Weber, has been buying and working with these fabrics, especially the vintage ones, for several years. In 2006 she designed this quilt to use these fabrics in an artistic but repeatable way. By following the guidance in the pattern, you too can create a beautiful piece of quilt art from yukata or other specialty fabrics. Enjoy!
You can substitute commercial Asian fabric or any specialty textiles for the yukata fabrics.
